Card Making

The Male Room Challenge – #52

I missed out on the last card for this particular challenge blog – I left it too late to submit even though I put it on my blog! So I was determined to get this one done on time…

The challenge for this week on The Male Room is to use WASHI TAPE! I love my washi stash – it can be used for loads of different things!

I chose the black and white checkered tape I had and was going to do a ‘Ska’ card since I love ska music and all the fashions that go with it. I don’t have all that much ska-related stuff in my stash though so just give it a bit of a nod and went with the Scooter, and a two-tone background. photo_20170131_110123

I cut a piece of black card to use as a panel and split it into three which I divided with the tape. I used an embossing folder to give the bottom section some interest then did a basic cityscape on the top section and heat embossed it with white powder so you could actually see it!

I stamped and cut out my scooter and coloured it in with Promarkers and a metallic silver Sharpie. I was torn between leaving the scooter black & white or colouring it but decided in the end that by colouring it in it would stand out better on the monochrome background.

Before I stuck this onto the middle section of the card, I decided to give this section a bit of interest. I used a ‘brick wall’ stencil, a sponge and clear embossing ink and then used clear embossing powder to heat emboss the ‘bricks’. I quite liked how this turned out (I think I’ll use this idea again on some other project!)

I added my scooter and a little flag to the back of it and then stamped a sentiment from the same stamp set onto a plain piece of card which I stuck to the top washi tape.

I had a some scrap left over from another card when I’d cut out a ‘smile’ sentiment – I kept this with the intention of maybe using it as a stencil but decided it would look good here sitting on the checkered washi tape. To make it ‘pop’ I outlined it with a white gel pen. photo_20170131_110132

All in all I’m quite pleased with how this ended up and also pleased with actually getting it in on time! photo_20170131_110347

  2. Such a fun challenge and what a wonderful take you have on it. Dividing your card into thirds was genius… that is at that jaunty angle! Wonderful combination of elements with the dry embossing, stamping and heat embossing, coloring on your fussy cut image, and of course….washi! Great work!!
